We have 2 Dell R815 servers each with 2 drives in RAID 1 where esxi 4.1 free is installed. The servers have SD card slots but we did not use them when bought. I am planning to populate the slots with 2 GB SD card and move the installation of esxi over to the SD card.
Here's what I am thinking of doing.
- use the PowerCLi and run Get-VMHostFirmware -backupconfiguration
- Install the SD cards
- Change the boot order and boot up to SD, install esxi 4.1 update 3 Build 8000380
- Run the Set-VMHostFirmware command
- Once the system is up, then format the hard drives.
Both servers are connected to MD3220i SAN with 8 NIC's.
Will appreciate any comments
