I am currently running ESXI 5.1 on a brand new Shuttle XPC machine that has an Intel i5 cpu, 32GB Ram and 1TB HDD. I have installed vSphere Client 5.1 on my client machine desktop and have created my first VM for Server 2008 R2. I have not added any roles to it yet.
The Problem:
From the VM, I can Ping the Shuttle XPC (host) and Ping my client machine, but it will not let me ping from the client to the VM.
Now, just as a note, I am fully aware that the Host and VM have 2 different IP addresses. I only got 3 options when it came to setting up a NIC, and i wasn't sure which to use so i just chose one. On the VM I can access the internet, download updates, etc. Why can't I reach out to my client?
Also I can only get my client machines CD drive to work while using vsphere client, i have the USB icon highlighted as well but it says No USB Connected when I have 2 flashdrives plugged in. Also it wonlt let me install the Drivers for the Shuttle from the CD it came with, gives me an error for the NIC driver and all that, says it may be in Deep Sleep mode and to plug it in and says my machine doesn't meet the requirements to update the Chipset driver.
** im 100% new to virtualization and still new in the IT world so please be light with the terms, maybe explain it in a "for dummies" way
