I have reinstalled my box with ESXi 5.0. A fresh install.
I had a vm on the old 4.1 running winxpSP3 which I've upgraded to VM version 8 as soon as I moved it on the new system. I've also upgrade the vmware tools on the vm as advised by the OS itself.
I'm not quite sure why but I'm experiencing some problems with communication from the vm to a network scanner.
If I install the scanner management software on my win7 laptop it works very well, but using the same software (it used to work perfectly on the vm too!) on the winxp vm it fails.
I used wireshark on both windows and found that on the vm only gets some "ACK lost segment". Please see file in attachment,
I've tried to uninstall the old vmxnet2 and run a more compatible e1000.
The strange thing is that I can sometime scan on document but afterwards this tcp problem reappears.
So given 3 elements here:
scanner
network
client device (winxp over esxi / physical win7)
I'm pretty sure it's a ESXi related problem as scanner + network + win7 works fine.
BTW I had to downgrade a nic dirver from vmxnet2 to e1000 on another vm (freebsd8) after I moved this from esxi 4.1 to 5.0.
Anybody has ever experience a similar?

is msi file contain 32 bit compatability file , if yes right click on setup file clik run as administrator and set compaatibility to xp mode.
