From what I understand, I can only do this from the vSphere Web Client, which is only available from the vCenter ISO. Unfortunately I don't have vCenter. I tried adding vpmc.enable = "TRUE" to my guest vm's .vmx file, unregister and re-register the vm from the inventory under the free vSphere Client, and the vpmc.enable line disappeared after re-registering the vm. I've already upgraded the vm to hardware version 10 using the free vSphere Client so it should support the vpmc option.
Is there any other way to enable this?
Is there a free way to try vSphere Web Client?
I can't find any free vCenter trial downloads.
I need to quickly test my software under VMware, and it requires the Linux Performance Events Subsystem which requires PMU support.
