Re: Workstation 12 crash AGAIN - Can't load Windows 98 (VMM DoubleFault)

How can I set specific Properties on a Virtual Machine when I provision from VRA 7?

Hello,

Here is a simple scenario - I have Linux VM on which I have my own properties "Property_1" and "Property_2". I have converted this to template.

On VRA 7 I have used this template in Blueprint and I do use Clone and Workflow type as Clone Workflow.

Is It possible for me pass the Property_1 and Property_2 from VRA and set this on the newly Cloned VM. If yes, will these values be set before the machine is created or after machine provisioning.

I could not get this working on VRA 6.x, so wanted to check if this supported in VRA 7.

Thanks,

Pankaj

I have included package as well as individual workflow with sample config element; package import seems to be failing consistently between v5.5.3's and up.

Substitute "example" in the attribute name config to match your AD and set the value. On execution provide AD name. with ad plugin 1.0.3 we expect this in the console log

This is the example Active Directory: DynamicWrapper (Instance) : [AD_OrganizationalUnit]-[class ch.dunes.ad.object.OU] -- VALUE : OU:DC=example,DC=com

Sites unable to pair after IP change . SRM 6.1

Hello all,

I'm currently having a problem pairing sites after the IP address of one of the SRM servers needed to change. I ran through the modify install to attempt to have it pick up the new IP and pair again. I even tried uninstalling SRM completely, creating a brand new VM and installed SRM on it with the new IP. The correct IP is shown in the web interface and also the managed object browser under the vcDr extension. The "Pair Sites" wizard does complete successfully after typing in the required info. The pop up goes away but the paired site never shows up in the web client. The desktop vSphere client shows that the sites are trying to pair, but it eventually gives one of two errors:

2.PNG

asdf.PNG

After seeing these I tried to create new admin accounts under vsphere.local for both sites and set vsphere.local to default domain. Ran through modify install again with new account info, and typed new account info while attempting to pair sites, but I still get the same problem.

Digging into the vmware-dr.log shows me that the SSL client handshake fails, and then SSO login fails assuming due to the SSL/certificate problem. Here were those two messages that stood out to me:

for source: powered-on Win7 PC, target vCenter/vConverter 5.5 - I also had to enable the source's local 'administrator' account (disabled by policy).  Really odd.

Already tried:

- domain admin account (inherently local admin on source and target, can otherwise do anything)

- source-local non-domain custom admin account

- turned off UAC on source

- launched Converter as administrator

Hey HTH thanks for the replace currently I'm capturing the following:

#User Profile Data

[IncludeFolderTrees]

<UserProfile>

#Prevent syncing of ost file on users cache mode enabled

[ExcludeFiles]

<UserProfile>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\%EmailAddress% - Default Outlook Profile.ost

#remove bginfo wallpaper

[ExcludeFiles]

<UserProfile>\AppData\Local\Temp\bginfo.jpg

The problem I'm running into is the first time I set a new wallpaper everything is fine, I then reboot and it gets the bginfo correctly the first time. I reboot again the archive looks fine but then when I log back in it's blurred and what I'm finding is that the transcoded wallpaper is getting modifed and the old bginfo water mark is showing up on it.

If anyone has any ideas I would love to talk about this as it's been frustrating me for a number of days and our users are complaining since we didn't have this issue when we were using Persona.

You'll want to do something like this to create the command, then pass it to your "execution" workflow. Is that what you're aiming for?

The upgrade bundle that you'd need to use to upgrade NSX Manager is the zip file.  The OVA file (the file shown in the screenshot) is the appliance which would be used for a new deployment.

Hello,

I think what you might be seeing is that powershell command passes, but when you see the properties of the VM, they will still be old.

My take is that you will need to use reconfig_VMTask to do this. For this you will need to power down VM in your script, set the parameters to reConfigVM_Task and power on the VM. I have used reConfigVM_Task and it works.

See this also - ReconfigVM_Task | VMware and Powershell

Pankaj

Hello,

If you have installed a completely new SRM with a new database and a new certificate(considering it is using a self-signed certificate) you will not be able to pair again with the remote "old" SRM server. If you have not broken the SRM connection prior to installing the new SRM server you will not be able to pair again. You will have to re-install from scratch on both sites.

Nik

Snapshot deletion question - deleting all *but* the most recent snapshot

$

I have a question. I have a VM, where my user has made 3 snapshots - #1, then #2, then #3, then #4. This user tells me he only needs the latest snapshot, and not the intermediate snapshots.

I should be able to just delete them in reverse sequence - #3, then #2, then #1 - leaving only #4 as the single snapshot. And that should be all I need, to have #4 be the only snapshot I can revert to? And - most importantly - the only one taking up disk space. I need to delete #1-#3 to reclaim datastore space.

This shouldn't cause any issues, correct? I'm more used to deleting snapshots in reverse order - #4, #3, #2, #1 ...

Is it possible to create Network Profiles in VRA 7 using VRO workflows?

Hello,

Is it possible to create Network Profiles in vRA 7 using VRO Workflow?

If not, is there any other mechanism like REST API?

Can't login with administrator@vmware.local

I was able to generate a new password last week for the Vcenter Server Appliance (5.5U2) and it worked for logging in so I made note of it and I came in today ready to upgrade to Vcenter 6.0 only to find out it won't accept the password again. I figured no big deal, I'll just reset it again but I've tried 4x newly generated passwords (none with a "!") but it won't let me login. I'm following the instructions I followed last week to generate them using Putty:

https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2034608#vSphere 5.5

Any idea why it's not working? I can't upgrade it without those creds.

I mean the PW seems to reset but still won't let me login using the newly generated PW

Hello Nik,

I did break the SRM connection prior to installing the new SRM server. I forgot to mention that I recreated the SRM servers from scratch at both sites. I am using the self-signed certificate and embedded database option. So, two fresh SRM servers one at each site and the log is showing the same errors. Its like there is some information stuck in the vCenters/PSC...

Thanks,

Chris

Removed vCenter node still in System Configuration after removal

$

I switched my primary vCenter server from a Windows box to the Linux appliance. Everything got moved without issue, so then I ran the recommended cmsso-util unregister command pointed to the old server to be decommissioned, as mentioned here: https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2106736

The old vCenter server was successfully removed from the list in vCenter Server Inventory, but when I go to Administration -> System Configuration -> Nodes, the old server is still listed as a node there. How can I remove it?

Also, when I go to Administration -> Users and Groups -> Users, when I look at the list of domains, I still see the old vCenter's Windows hostname listed there.

Thanks for any help.

You might be able to get a trial license of Veeam and backup the machines on the old cluster and restore them to the new cluster. I have not done this between 3.5 and 5.1 but it might be worth testing.

Are these properties something that you have inside the virtual machine or are these "tags" within something like vCenter? With vRA 7 you can pass custom properties at any given state or event to a virtual machine it's all a question of what you are actually trying to accomplish.

Take a look at these two posts, 1 is collecting information at different times

     Enabling the Event Broker

2 is executing a command on linux (i.e. using a property to execute it)

Dynamic install of the app authoring agent
